Anybody can do it. There's no way around it and that sad fact won't change. While I have self-pubbed (as you know), I'm really trying to get an agent and/or mainstream publisher. I'd also posit that many micropresses are the equivalent to self-pubbing in re: getting distribution or recognition. There are some decent small presses, but I don't happen to be affiliated with any of those - only the other kind.
